“Youth & EU Danube Strategy “

The Danube has and always had a very high social, cultural and economic value for Europe. It is of high importance to remind ourselves that one of the very first European institutions – the European Commission of the Danube – was established in 1856 with aim to ensure the free navigation on the Danube River. Today, Danube still has a tremendous potential for the economic development and the social cohesion of the European Union, from the North Sea to the Black Sea.

The European Council from 19 June 2009 has formally asked the European Commission to present an EU Strategy for the Danube Region before the end of 2010. We need a common European vision for an integrated Strategy for the Danube Region and the European Parliament is playing a prominent role in this process.

The aim of the conference “Youth & EU Danube Strategy” is to have an open dialogue with young people, MEPs and EU officials from all member States bordering the Danube River.

The conference will enjoy the participation of young people from all Member States along Danube, actively involved in projects related to the Danube Region at local, regional and national level and in civil society. Young people with their projects, initiatives and enthusiasm are key actors for the future Danube Strategy and both the European Parliament and the Commission should listen and support them.

We are convinced that your participation will be an important step to build together a dialogue between generations on EU Strategy for the Danube Region and the future of the Danube Region.
