| Four Cities to Compete for the title of European Youth Capital 2015 |
|
Out of the 12 cities that applied from across the continent, Cluj-Napoca (Romania), Ivanovo (Russia), Varna (Bulgaria) and Vilnius (Lithuania) have been selected as finalists in this year’s competition.
The European Youth Capital is an award recognising one city each year that has distinguished itself by going above and beyond in empowering young people; short-list candidates for 2015 have demonstrated exemplary programmes and dynamic vision in the areas of youth unemployment, social inclusion and youth participation. The four final contenders will have until October to enhance their applications, and the winner will be announced in November during an official award ceremony in Slovenia.
Since 2009 European Youth Capital winners like Rotterdam (The Netherlands), Turin (Italy), Antwerp (Belgium), Braga (Portugal), Maribor (Slovenia) and Thessaloniki (Greece) have had a chance to showcase youth oriented cultural, social and political events and activities throughout their appointed year. The EYC programme intends to acknowledge and encourage innovation and inclusion in the field of youth; winners act as role models for creating more informed and active youth on the European stage.
